Mission and vision
The Marianne Center was founded in 2010 with the aim of improving the lives of young people with intellectual disabilities in Nairobi, Kenya. We strive to offer them – and their families and surroundings – a new perspective on a better future and to help them discover what they are capable of.
At the Marianne Center, young people get the chance to develop their talents and show that they are capable of much more than people often think. The students not only learn how to take good care of themselves, but also develop a range of practical skills, such as gardening, jewellery making, rug making, hair care, IT, sewing and bag design. They also learn social skills and, where possible, are supported in learning to read and write. After completing their training, we help them find work in their own community. In this way, they can make a positive contribution to their families and surroundings.
Mission
To enable people with intellectual disabilities to live independently and to be part of Kenyan society as fully as possible.
Vision
A society in which people with intellectual disabilities are seen, valued and able to contribute actively.
